Sunday night I walked out of the bathroom and announced to the children that inside my seasoned womb grew a sibling determined to dehydrate me from the inside out. (only jesting about that last part.)
“But mom, HOW do you KNOW that there is a baby in there?” ask the smaller children.
“Because children, I peed on a stick.”
I could tell by the looks on their faces that they were picturing their mother gathering twigs and peeing on them.
“Well, not ANY stick. A magic stick. From the store.”
And that settled it, they were satisfied.
Shortly after that conversation my belly popped out. When pregnant I am a one woman freak show. You will see proof in the photo below.
This photo was taken when I was SIX WEEKS pregnant with miss Violet. I will tell you the story that goes with the photo to illustrate just how cool I really am.
Martha and I flew to a fabric show in Vegas. I swear my amazing belly would grow by the hour and the jeans I put on that morning no longer fit by the afternoon. While eating in the hotel restaurant I undid my jeans so that I could breathe.
After eating, I nonchalantly meandered miles through the huge motel and boarded the elevator to our room with a multitude of other people. The elevator was mirrored on all four sides. That is when I noticed that my jeans were still undone and my belt was clanging merrily askew. Amidst a multitude of people.

Congratulations!!!! Number 9 already. That is just crazy how time flies….Hopefully you won’t be as sick as you were before. You seem to young to be expecting your ninth but I guess I have 3 grandbabies and one more on the way. We probably don’t feel as old as we are.I sure don’t feel like a 40 year old granny, but I am! Ohhhh thank goodness I am not the only one with a big belly within moments of peeing on that darn stick. You however are still tiny everywhere else 🙂
That is hilarious! I popped out really fast with my second but was sick and lost a bunch of weight with my 3rd. You looked fantastic anyway, pants hanging open or not;) I must say you are my hero, I don’t know how you do it all, and so well!

I’m so glad I’m not the only one!! For #2, my belly started to look different before I even took the test. By 9 weeks, people at work {the college where I used to teach} were speculating and hinting. My aunt always said, “that’s not baby–it’s cheesecake… or gas!” No way! Just what my body does. Long way of saying, I can relate. It’s a cute little basketball belly. 🙂
