19 years

19 years I have been married to this man. We ran away to the ocean for a few days and it was the best anniversary, ever.

We stayed the first night in Discovery Coast Inn in Long Beach. Rustic, comfortable, charming, reasonable rate and oceanfront.

We will definitely stay again.

The next day the captain brought me fishing. My very first time. This was the best part of the whole trip. It was awesome seeing Levi in his element out there on the wild Pacific.  We crossed the infamous Columbia River Bar and I bounced completely off my seat, flying into the air and smashing into the sides of the cabin.  The Captain stood at the wheel, calm as a cucumber as he called the Bar “flat”.  Once we got to calmer waters we started pulling in fish. I did have to curl up on the side of the deck with my head over the side to keep from losing breakfast, but it was totally worth it.  My husband, such a gentleman as he did all the dirty work and let me reel in the fish. After limiting, Levi expertly filleted up the catch and we had lunch in a little restaurant at the marina. That is a perfect day.

We topped off a perfect day with a perfect evening. We drove to Arch Cape for a night at the amazing Arch Cape Inn.  We washed off the fish grime and walked to the beautiful dining room for some fine dining. This is always entertaining when Levi is along.  He likes to do things like stick his pinkies in the air, lick smiley faces into his plate and say inappropriate things to the staff that has me doubled over in hysterical laughter as I try to choke out a stern “Stop it!”

The food was heavenly. heavenly, heavenly, divine, heavenly. I wish the chef would have come out and taken a bow so we could give her a standing ovation.  If you stay at the Inn please make reservations. It is sorta spendy, but totally worth the experience of this 3 course meal.

After a steaming cup of Sleepy Monk coffee and delicious creme brulee we took a 3 minute walk down a sandy trail framed by wild roses to the most beautiful beach in the whole wide world: Arch Cape. It is an intimate little beach, the sand dotted with bonfires and handmade flag poles, a crystal clear river that runs to the ocean and magical caves within the rugged rocks. Enchanting. We got there just in time to watch the glorious sunset. Ridiculously romantic.

Thank you, my love, for making me feel cherished every single day. Here’s to many more years…like forever.
