Independence Day

july-2010-221-web

Another crazy fun holiday at Windy Ridge.  Everyone made it except my brother Tim and his family and my sister Rachael.  We missed you!

parade-2
Sabra, Violet & Hazel dressed up in the Saturday Market Collection, the colors perfect for the occasion.

While we prepared the food, the bigger girls orchestrated a parade for the little kids.  Yeah, with a family this big you just make your own parade. It was a disorderly march with wild flag waving and sweet little voices boisterously chanting: GOD BLESS AMERICA!

july-2010-179-webBaby Hazel could be found toddling around with a kitten tucked under her arm.

It was a good day, despite the unseasonable chilly temperature and drizzle. The kids had fun mutilating the hay bale seating(stacking them and playing “king of the mountain”), singing “My Country Tis of Thee” around the piano and watching the fireworks explode over the valley.   4th-collage

Keeping with the all American theme we had a good old fashioned barbeque.  Piles of  hotdogs and chips for the kids table and a gourmet burger bar and handcut fries for the adults.  The sisters helped cut up 15 pounds of potatoes, thank you, pretty ladies!  Mom made the most delicious hamburger buns, I will post the recipe.   Handmade beef patties, Aioli, grilled pepper & garlic spreads, fresh lettuce from Chad & Anya’s garden, grilled pineapple rings, OH MY!  I found red baskets and checkered papers at my favorite restaurant supply store and we piled them high with burgers and fries.  Then we topped off  the meal with ice cream cones and Mom’s cream cheese pound cake, I will post this recipe too, the best!

I hope you all had a blessed fourth!

PS- as of this weekend Anna is my neighbor again and Taj is awesome(if not a bit random at times;), YEEHAW!
