Mouse Killer

On the way to my office I see this contraption with illustrated instructions perched on the table and it makes me smile. My Wyatt is a dreamer and a visionary. He spends almost every day inventing…things. What he lacks in skill he makes up for in passionate optimism and imagination.  A sad day it will be […]

Snapshots

Snapshots from our summer.  It’s been a beautiful summer, so far. Visitors, barbeques, long walks and swimming. I meant to get the house in order and take photos for the “for sale” blog post I’ve been working on, but I got sidetracked by living.  I have things I want to do before the summer ends. […]

Wildflowers

Nothing compares to long summer evenings. Take a walk with us, won’t you?  Heading down the driveway, the main house looks cozy & happy basking in the sunshine. Looking ahead, Mt. St. Helens never ceases to amaze me. The melting snow a sign that we are smack-dab in the middle of summer. In the fields there […]

The Big Boys

I’ve been a confident mother. Until now. Until now I’ve mothered a  bunch of adoring and relatively obedient little children. And then one  day my adoring little boys were replaced by stinky big boys.  Since then I’ve been befuddled. Yesterday morning they headed to church for confirmation class. I text  them in the afternoon asking […]

Birthday party

I think this is the most guests we’ve had here so far.  Windy Ridge was bursting at the seams. A spur of the moment birthday bash for Uncle Tim, his twin, Tom,  and cousin Dylan.

Harvest Days

It isn’t summer until you go to the county fair. The ocean has been rough so the captain even came along this year.  Hand dipped corn dogs, fajitas, thumping music, flashing lights, cotton candy, dusty field, rides, elephant ears, smiling kids, it was everything it should have been.

Picnic at the pond

Sandy feet, rippling water, children’s laughter, gritty hotdogs, doves cooing, crackling fire, deer grazing, lemonade… shell hunting, vintage picnic basket, dreaming, feeling like a kid again, dappled sunlight,  red thermos, happy chatter…  Move over, copper tub, I think the pond may be my new favorite thing at Windy Ridge. (the tippy top of the main […]

The Pond

A spring fed pond on our property.  Dreamy, because this means I don’t have to bring the kids to the overcrowded lakes and rivers this year.  Just load them up in the ranch buggy with some towels, cheap soda pop and a picnic basket. Admission: FREE. We have had a very gray June here in […]

Marshmallow Roast

The weather has been dreary, but that didn’t stop us from roasting marshmallows. This is down by the cabin and the pond lake.  We are still tying to decide on a name for the lake. Any ideas? The chilly weather didn’t stop the big boys from going for a swim, either.  Crazy kids.

Concrete Counter top instructions

I interviewed Levi with Brother’s Concrete on our way to Portland. It went something like this: Me(pulls up notepad on iPhone): “OK! Let’s start with a material list!” Levi(exasperated): “Jennifer, just tell them to look it up on YouTube.” I know he is exasperated because he called me Jennifer. That plus the mean scowl […]
