Astoria, Oregon

We impulsively decided to sneak away before baby is born and figured our 17th anniversary was as good excuse as any.  We stayed at the Cannery Pier Hotel on the Astoria water front.  Astoria is the oldest town west of the Rockies, rich in Finnish & Scandinavian history and you know how I love history.  The Hotel was 600 feet out on the water next to a shipping channel so you could watch huge ships glide past your window.

A small boutique Hotel, the attention to detail was amazing.  The old bicycles & chauffeured antique cars were complimentary.

It was a wonderful, relaxing getaway even though the Captain had one eye on the water at all times.   I would visit with  him and he would listen intently & say something like “I wonder what they are using for bait out there?”. I appreciate that he was willing to peruse the junk stores &  Saturday market with me despite the call of the ocean.

  21. I’ve always wanted to go to Astoria. I recently read an historical novel, based on the story of an Indian woman that makes her home in Astoria during the early settlement days of Fort Astoria.
