Our Spencer Cole is 14 already. A sweet, sensitive, goofy and sometimes annoying kid. He will sit beside me while I am visiting and chant in monotone “mama, mama, mama” until I want to laugh and backhand him at the same time. He comes up with the weirdest nicknames (takes after my dad on this one). He calls Levi “Father-in-law”, Sabra is “Beebatron”(beebs for short), Hazel is “Bubba Jean” and so on and so forth. We love him.
Here is a fill-in-the-blank style poem he did at the beginning of the school year:
Where I’m From
I am from fishing rods, from DC shoes and Oreos. I am from the grass in the backyard. Green, slick, freshly cut.
I am from ferns, the blackberry bush whose fresh berries I ate. I’m from the turkey on Thanksgiving and sense of humor, from Hazel and Violet.
I’m from the mess-makers and know-it-alls, from love one another and say your prayers. I am from God, creator of all.
I am from Scandanavia, from crab chowder and homemade pizza, from the boy who rode his bike and broke his arm. The father that fishes the ocean.
We are from Windy Ridge. 84 acres nestled in the foothills of Mt. St. Helens. We are a family of 12.
How about “Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey.” There. I wrote it 14 times for all the times he said it at the bonfire. Haha. Happy Birthday, Spencer. Great poem.
Spencer, you rock and we love ya!!
Awesome. I love it! You have such a beautiful family! You are blessed!
Spencer, you are such a cutie:) I love your poem!
I love that poem! I wish I had that lesson plan to use with my seventh graders. It is so beautifully written. I would treasure that forever!
What a great sense of humor!! Happy Birthday to your sweet boy!
Happy Birthday to Spencer.. I think he sounds like an awesome kid.
Your son Spencer so reminds me of my oldest son Davey, who is now 27 years old and turned out to be such a neat person, just a “good guy”. Enjoy his charm, you’ll miss it lots when he’s older. I know I do. Blessings, Sandy:O)
I don’t visit your blog often enough. You ARE blessed! I enjoyed reading his poem as well. WOW! Can’t believe you are having your tenth child! I’m not criticizing at all. We have five. As a matter of fact, we were expecting our last children at close to the same time. I’m guessing a health condition got the best of me. I’m so tired and worn out. I am very blessed and thankful for my children. I pray that you have a wnderful pregnancy and a healthy baby.
