Pike's Place Market

A daytrip to Seattle is a perfect way to spend a Saturday. We took the young people and drove 3 hours to the city. Taking little detours of cobblestone side streets as we missed exits. A couple loops around the block, narrowly missing panhandlers and we managed to park the beast in the top floor of a parking garage.

We worked our way through the crowds and had lunch on the waterfront.  After that we walked around Pike’s Place and bought souvenirs and people watched. After an hour or so of exploring we set out to find the famous gum wall.  No luck. We asked some people and they looked at us in disgust, gum wall? Never heard of it.  We found a shop that sold gum wall t-shirts.  An employee told us how to get there.  On our way there I noticed a sign for Pike’s Place…pointing the opposite direction of where we had just spent hours touring. OOPS.  Up the steps we went. Here it is I tell the kids. Duh! This is more like it. So we walk through the shops and ask another person where the gum wall was. More blank stares. I don’t know, says the janitor, but that sounds gross. Our jaws are getting sore from chomping gum.

pp-seagull-rachWe march up yet another set of steps and I notice a sign pointing to Pike’s Place. OOPS. Toured the wrong place once again.

pp-fish-marketWe finally found the actual Pike’s Place! Here is the world famous fish market. There’s is just something about a man in grundens.
