What’s in a name? Not too much. To me it is just a moniker that you love. I don’t think it will make or break a kid. I hope to high heaven that my kid wouldn’t fail in life just because of a name. I hope to higher heaven that I raise stronger children than that. Of course that is just my opinion, you might see it differently.
I am not a girl that scoffs at one’s name choice. I respect that they chose a name that they personally love. So many things influence our perception of a name. People we went to school with, places we have been, experiences we have had. For example, though I love the name Mason, it will forever remind me of the kid that tried to stab the class goldfish with scissors in 3rd grade. You see?
For this contest we are looking for first names only. Please keep in mind that though I may adore a name it has to be approved by Levi. If the kids become violently ill at the mention of a certain name I may reconsider though daddy & I have the final say. Also keep in mind that I have a multitude of relatives that have already used up most of the names on this earth. So I may love a name you submitted, but cannot use it if my brother already has one.
Our born children’s names:
Landon Levi (son)
Riley Michael (son)
Destiny Evelyn (daughter)
Spencer Cole (son)
Sabra Eden (daughter)
Jace Walker (son)
Wyatt Austin (son)
Violet Noelle (daughter)
The Rules:
- first names only(please include pronunciation if name is really unique)
- you may submit as many names as you wish any time that you want
- submit your name ideas in the comment section of this post
- If a name we choose is submitted more than once, the first to enter will win
- once a name has been decided on, the winner & our daughter’s name will be announced
(this could go on for days or months, but a decision will be made prior to birth, I promise:)
The Prize:
- The entire Friday Harbor Collection in size desired
The Disclaimer:
- We may get a thousand entries and decide on something completely different, okay?
Let the naming begin!

I love the name Rayleigh I think it is so feminine and strong at the same time. I argued with my husband to use it right up until the moment he held our screaming daughter in his arms after delivery called her “Braydanne Noelle” and she immediately stopped crying and looked into his eyes…I knew my battle was over! I have never regreted it but hope someday for a Rayleigh and an Emerson grand-daughter. God bless you and your family.
Hmmm…so many lovely names! My girls are Jessa and Meg, so of course, I love ’em. My boy is Mason, and I think Mason spelled Masynn would be cute for a girl, and totally not in a gold-fish killer sort of way. 😉

OK, my 3 year old just invented her first imaginary friend yesterday and announced that her name is Preidy (pree dee)! i was thrilled – my boys never had one! She came up with the name herself, and it sounds so sweet coming from her baby lips. “Mommy, Preidy is my best friend. Mommy, Preidy can have some of my dinner. She is sitting in that chair. Mommy, Preidy went home to go to bed.”
Jen,
Sorry didn’t realize I had to put it here… After reading all the suggestions there are several I would use. Pretty names.
My first suggestion was Aurora Fern (I know there is a Fern in the west family somewhere!)
My best childhood friend has a daughter with the name Banner
Our baby’s name is Tirzah from the old testament…Tirzah (in the Bible)had four sisters named: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah (not sure I’d use that one :)and Milcah. Another name that has an awesome Biblical meaning is Shilo.
We have Kaisa, Anneli, Tuula, Teija (pronounced Tayah),and Tirzah…you are welcome to use any of them.
Teija has a doll named Journey Elizabeth (named her herself) My brother-in-law from Finland has a niece with the name Kia (pronounced just like the car).My kids have BEGGED me if we have another girl to name her Truly Scrumptious (off of chitty chitty bang bang) and weirdly it would go with the rest of our names.
My Swedish friends tell me that “Nea” as in “Linnea” is very popular in Sweden as well as Matilda or Tilda, Petra, Ronja, and Tyra.
I know that God aready has her name picked out He is just waitng to place it in your heart!
Scout – the sweet little heroine in To Kill a Mockingbird
[“Scout” Finch – The narrator and protagonist of the story. Scout lives with her father, Atticus, her brother, Jem, and their black cook, Calpurnia, in Maycomb. She is intelligent and, by the standards of her time and place, a tomboy. Scout has a combative streak and a basic faith in the goodness of the people in her community. As the novel progresses, this faith is tested by the hatred and prejudice that emerge during Tom Robinson’s trial. Scout eventually develops a more grown-up perspective that enables her to appreciate human goodness without ignoring human evil.]
Liana (Lia) – My God has answered
Another name I have always loved is Star….and maybe it’s the artist in me struggling to get out but wouldn’t it be cool to sign your name with a star.
My picks are:
Gretta
Geneva(EVA)
Anna
Lola
Adeline (A-da-line)
Greyson
Ansley (Ain-sley)
Claire
Olivia
Grace
Lena (Lee-na)

That’s it. Just Lily. My 5 year old daughter thanks me at least once a week for naming her Lily b/c “I love my name!” Middle name is Parker … I wanted to give her a feminine first name and a more mainstream middle name that she could use at work at a later date if she wanted to. :o)
Oh, and if we have a second girl which I really hope we do –
Gracie
I love the simplicity and beauty of that name …
If you are trying to do an old-fashioned name, my mother-in-law’s name is “Bertie” It’s a nice name … very old-timey. (Her middle name is Mae – making it a MUCH more southern name than it has to be.)

If our son would have been a girl, she would have been named
Halsey
