Rejoice, O people of Zion! Shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem! Look, your king is coming to you. He is righteous and victorious, yet he is humble, riding on a donkey— riding on a donkey’s colt. (Zechariah 9:9)
Prophecy fulfilled on that Palm Sunday years ago!
HOSANNA!
from the Hebrew phrase “hoshiya na” found in Psalms 118:25 which means “Save, please!”
Over the years it turned into a shout of exhalation filled with expectant hope. “Salvation is here!”
It makes me think of when I was a little girl and I had fallen from a tree at the end of our gravel road and fractured my arm. Frightened and in pain, I remember the road seemed extra long that day as I frantically raced home. As soon as I saw my father I yelled “Daddy! Daddy! Daddy!” and it was a cry of joy knowing that I was safe and he would take care of me.
That’s how I think of “Hosanna!”
Except infinity times better.
