Chair project

chair-1I have dreams for my dining nook that involve an antique leather sofa.  In the meantime we have these old things. I couldn’t justify throwing out these perfectly sturdy frames.  After years of abuse from my children the original rush seats turned into a pile of hay beneath the chair.

Two patterns of soft pleather(kid friendly vinyl), stapler, plywood & foam and we actually have somewhere to sit other than the floor.

After careful consideration and numerous pulled staples I realize that I am not good at upholstery.   Despite this revelation I proceed with enthusiasm.  I give up on my carefully devised plan and start swinging the stapler like a madwoman.   The children look on in horrified awe.  I then stand back to ponder a solution to the damage I have done.  I decide that a suede fringe is the remedy for my puckered and gaping edges.

It may not be pretty, but at least we have somewhere to sit until my dreams of the antique sofa come true.

  1. I LOVE them! A work of art…and so much more when you did it with your own two hands! Something to boast about! I am still trying to get over your post from yesterday…I typed and erased, typed and erased, and decided my crass words wouldn’t do anyone any good…but let me tell you, “I hear ya sister!” on clients that send you for a loop!

  2. How DO you do it???

You have children, one on the way, a business, a large home/propery and STILL you have time to recover chairs. Okay — come clean…A nanny? A staff? 🙂

I suspect its actually just a happy heart and youthful energy. 🙂

But no kidding — do the kids do a lot around the house for you? I know we did, as kids, growing up in a family with 8 children, we pretty much knew how to run the household (in a GOOD way!). We cooked, cleaned, did yard work, etc. It definitely helps the parents when the kiddos are “on board” and good helpers. Yours truly must be! 🙂

You are an amazing woman, m’dear!

  3. I’m still laughing at the image of you and your machine gun — err — staple gun. I have these fabulous dining room chairs, same color as yours, big, sturdy, leather seats. I’d love to reupholster them, but unfortunately, I’d probably shoot holes all over the house. I commend your adventurous craftiness.

  4. The vision in my head of you stapling like a mad woman cracked me up. Thanks for keeping it real.

  5. Ok I have an image of you, a dust cloud, and staples and arms flying all over the place, ahahahahaha!
