Beware of the giant

simon-and-boys

Only Riley is brave enough to wrestle with this Saint Bernard.  They have a special bond, those two.

We’ve had Simon since he was a puppy. He is huge, even for a Saint. A gentle giant most of the time.  A dog that sleeps with kittens and goats. A dog that has never killed anything, except the kid’s pet chipmunk, but that was simply a mishap with a large paw. A sad day, that.

UNLESS…one acts suspicious.

Like the the big, burly delivery guy that took off running and started screaming like a little girl when he noticed Simon galloping his way. Simon thought that was suspicious.  He chased the poor man around in circles, growling fiercely.  Meanwhile, I stood by helplessly flapping my arms. Eventually, the man managed to jump in his truck and roar off. I don’t think he’ll be back. I don’t blame him.

It’s not much better if he likes you.  He will run between your legs and suddenly you are riding around on a dog. It makes you feel a little foolish.

The other night Levi’s employee drove up to Windy Ridge, in the dark, to collect his paycheck.  By the time he made it to the door he was bewildered and stuttering.

“Did Simon give you a ride to the  door?” I ask.

“Y-y-y-es” he stutters.

Poor fellow.

  1. That is one big dog! Some people just don’t know how to deal with or understand (big)dogs. lol
I grew up with a german shepard. She played with my pet rabbit, cats, other dogs and loved playing in the sprinklers. She even barked and grabbed the seat of our teeter totter if she thought we were going to high. She always seemed like “Nana” from Peter Pan. Your dog LOOKS like “Nana”. 😀

  2. Oh that is hilarious!

  4. Darling, you should make a movie of your life! Or at least write a book about it (best seller). Then Disney will make the movie… 🙂 Yours, Ninni
