The Christmas tree

Last night we drove over to mom & dad’s to visit.  We sat around sipping coffee and telling old stories.  As I was listening to Levi tell one of his childhood memories it occurred to me that I should write them down so they are never forgotten.  Voila!  The “memory lane” category was born.

A little nook to tuck these treasured tales into.

In the spirit of Christmas season I will start with the story of the tree.

When we were first married we lived in a tiny blue house with a big yard.  We were young, had big hair, mullets and very little money.  Levi is in the construction business and December was often the hardest month of the year.  Our kids were small, the bills overdue & Christmas was right around the corner.

And on top of all that…

Mr. Smith told us(in quite a grumpy voice)that we needed to remove a big evergreen tree in our backyard that was leaning over onto his property.

One morning while Levi was at work, there was a knock at the door.  When I opened it there stood a well-dressed stranger asking if he could buy that big evergreen in my backyard for $350.   I was stunned.  I said yes.

Turns out he was out scouting Christmas trees for a big city.  $350 may not seem like a lot now, but it made all the difference then.

When I look back I am amazed.  What are the chances?  A complete stranger knocking on your door in a time of need.  Asking to PAY you to remove a tree that was fated for removal?
