Queen for a season

march-2009-184-web

I watch my little ragamuffin prancing around in her flouncy skirt.  She is happily singing “Jesus Loves Me”, some of it in a foreign language that I am not familiar with.

I say “Violet, you are so sweet, can I take a picture of you?”

“No!” She merrily chirps in reply.

Babyhood is revered by all in our household and for a season baby reigns.  She has 9 servants at her beck and call.  Everything she does is considered brilliant.  She is usually the last to wake in the morning. 7 siblings sit downstairs waiting for her to make a peep and when she does there is a mad stampede going up the stairs to get to her first.  The rest of the day she gives orders.

“Riley! I want hot chocolate!”  she orders in her sweet little voice.

“You want hot chocolate? Okay, Riley will get you some hot chocolate” replies the adoring servant.

I can’t help thinking as I watch her today that her reign will be over in 5 months.  Then a new baby shall reign and she will become an adoring servant.  I am sad for a moment.  Then I realize that the adoring servants have as much fun adoring as the baby has being adored.

  2. its that way around here too
but no chance of a little one dropping in again in five months, or ever…i’m good with that though:)
i was way behind in checking your posts…LOVIN the new do & hairpins, precious! love the pantry & soup is always better with cream!
    xo

  3. Soo cute:) Yup that is how it goes hey?!! She reminds me of how my mom looked in her pictures of when she was young:)

  4. Such a life lesson for all! Serving is truly more satisfying than being served. Perhaps that’s why we are the “served” for such a short period of our lives–just a long enough taste of being on the pillar so that we understand how to serve later on down the road.

By the way, you look beautiful with your baby belly and new hairdo!

  5. She is so beautiful, such an angel !

  6. Isn’t it wonderful to watch them all interact with the beautiful relationships that they carve out over the years? I love having a spread that is large enough so that they don’t really compete but instead each be in their own special stage~

  7. Awww this really made me sad for Lilly too! I hadn’t thought about it before… but it’s so true. The babyhood (or youngest) stage complete with adoring slaves (er..siblings) is totally prevalent in our house too. I hadn’t even considered how much things will change in the next couple of months..
I am sure though with Violet’s adorable cherub face she’ll still have those servants for awhile to come, even with the arrival of the new wee one 🙂

  8. She’s so adorable. For some reason, my son (now 4) thinks he should be adored and served indefinitely….

  9. Hi Jen – I am in awe of you and your family – and your home!!! You live a fairy tale life. I can’t believe that you are having baby #9…………..I have 6 kids and people say I am crazy and ask me how I do it. You would probably agree – you do what you have to do, it is life – right? Anyhow, the children are all blessings, aren’t they?

    Thanks for sharing your life.
